We wanted to share with you a recent Iron Academy Family Spotlight story written by one of our beloved Iron Family members, the Armogida Clan. While their story is unique, the impact our discipleship-focused approach to all-male Christian education has had on their family gives insight into what other members of our community experience and can expect when they become part of the Iron Academy family:
"We first heard about Iron Academy several years ago on the radio. We were intrigued by what we heard, but our oldest was only in elementary school. Homeschooling our four children was going well, and we lived very far away. Iron Academy did not look like it would ever be an option for our family. As the years went on and our oldest son was soon entering high school, we felt the Lord leading us to seek a different educational option for him. He brought Iron Academy back to our minds. We felt hopeful but hesitant, still not fully believing it would be a viable option. We stepped out in faith, and Lathan joined the Iron family his freshman year. We were so excited!
Around the time Lathan was starting school, Iron put an ad for part-time help in the front office. We thought this might be a good opportunity to help offset the costs of school, so I (Candace) applied. My husband, Nick, had been a youth pastor for 10 years, and I had worked closely with him in the ministry. I knew an environment of middle and high school students—with such a large focus on biblical discipleship—would be familiar territory. The job was a perfect fit.
Words would fail to describe what a blessing Iron Academy was and the growth we saw in our son (and our family) that first year. Much to our surprise, because we didn’t see it as possible, we felt the Lord leading us to send Cole, our rising sixth grader, the following year. Another step found us being led by a faithful God who paved the way for us to send another son to Iron. As we are now entering our third year at Iron, both as students and employee, the Armogida family continues to be blessed. IA is the answer to our prayers, the partner we needed to support us in growing our sons both spiritually and academically.
Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be aded to you." In addition to our choices to honor this verse by either homeschooling or sending our sons to Iron Academy, we have also chosen to dedicate a large portion of our lives to mission work in Haiti. Our family photo was taken earlier this year in March, in the city of Jacmel. We partner with a local pastor and his church on various goals to alleviate poverty in one of the worst neighborhoods in the city. In order to fund these projects, we started City Of Lights Coffee Co, here in NC. We have been able to send over 40 children to school, assist a family with a special needs son, and install several hand washing stations to help curb the Covid-19 outbreak. To learn more about our mission, our projects, or to order coffee, please visit our website www.cityoflightscoffeeco.com."
