Iron Academy is pleased to announce our newest staff member, John Mata. Mr. Mata's primary responsibility will be teaching Spanish classes for 9th through 12th grades. In addition, he will be instrumental in working with 8th and 9th graders on owning outcomes. He will also step in as a staff leader during extracurricular trips and hopes to head up future international trips.
Mr. Mata has been teaching for 20 years, the last 4 of which were spent at Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy. Before moving to NC, he taught 16 years in Colorado. He holds a B.S. degree from Toccoa Falls College in Interpersonal and Organizational Communications. He also earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with a Principal's License from the University of Northern Colorado. He is licensed in NC to teach Spanish and holds a NC Principals License.
Mr. Mata has taught all levels of Spanish from Introductory to Pre-AP Spanish, both middle and high school. He has also taught computer technology, video production, college prep, world cultures, and more.
Travel is a passion and he has traveled to over 25 countries. He has led trips with students to Western Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America. He has also led and participated in several missions’ trips to Asia and South America. His most epic trip was trekking the Himalayas and sharing the gospel to people who had never heard of the name of Jesus.
Mr. Mata is married to his wonderful wife, Victoria, and they just celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary. They have three amazing children, Ally, Jared, and Sofia. They enjoy traveling, camping, hiking, mountain biking, the beach, and the mountains.
