Eden Ondachi

Eden is a tenth grader at Iron Academy. His favorite subject is Math because he enjoys problem-solving. He confesses that the pleasant learning environment at Iron has helped him do better in all the subjects. Also, the A/B schedule helps in his time management when studying so he is performing very well.

Although he has only been at Iron for less than a year, Eden considers Iron as the best of all the schools he has attended. Some of the things that make Iron stand out as an exceptional school to Eden are the Honor Code, the privilege of getting the Challenge Coin, and the unique experiences of the Crucible and the Forging camps. Eden sees the Round Table process at Iron as one of the fairest ways to hold the students accountable for their actions, unlike in any other school. He appreciates that his vote as a holder of the Iron Academy Challenge Coin is equal in power to that of the elected school leader, the CEO, his science teacher, or his peers. His opinion is valued and valuable. Also, the teachers make schooling an enjoyable experience because they relate very well to the students and make class engaging.

Gabe PrestonOutside of school, Eden enjoys hanging out with friends. He loves sports and has played football, soccer, track, and basketball. He is often shooting hoops or hanging around cracking jokes with his friends at any given opportunity. This past summer, he trained at a basketball camp for the whole summer. His favorite pastime is playing and competing with his friends on NBA2K. Besides sports, Eden loves music and is a great dancer. He has been playing drums since he was a toddler. He also likes traveling, especially flying, with his dad around the country.

Some of the things that Eden considers to be his greatest accomplishments so far include, sleeping alone in the middle of a dark forest at the Forging Camp this past August. Furthermore, in the Summer of 2014, he traveled by himself (without his parents) to Kenya, his parents’ home country, to see his grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins and his other extended family who live in Kenya. While there, he attended a local school for a month for a first-hand experience as a foreign exchange student.

For his future plans, Eden hopes to become an athletic trainer. He would also like to obtain a business degree in college in addition to being an athletic trainer.

Eden and his family have chosen Pastor Ben Warrick to be Eden’s mentor this year. Every family at Iron Academy employs the guidance of godly mentors outside the family and school. Pastor Ben is the Family Ministries Pastor at Northpark Church in Raleigh. Ben has been called to mentoring and looks forward to working even more closely with Eden.
