Iron Students and Parents, You will find in the links below the summer reading assignments for all students. This year, parents have summer assignments too. Enjoy!
We’ll be talking about your summer reading assignments almost immediately upon your return. Be prepared to discuss them intelligently, adding value every step of the way. Part of your grade, other than the specified assignments, will be how well you comply with Adler’s instructions on “How to Mark a Book.” If you find the method onerous, stick with it. The method will help you digest the book and be able to understand it well. I use my version of this methodology on every book I read. After many hundreds of books using this method, I can assure you it is reliable and effective. It’s also very efficient. I can go back to any book I’ve read over the last fifteen years and quickly be entirely reacquainted with it.
Proverbs 12:27b The precious possession of a man is diligence.
As you read through Digital Minimalism, consider the verse above and what diligence looks like in your daily life . Digital Minimalism and another terrific Cal Newport book entitled Deep Work have helped me focus more intently on how I spend my time. Being more diligent and examining myself daily in regards to diligence has helped me be a better disciple, husband, father, and leader over the last year. When I think about each one of you, I am encouraged to know you are way ahead of where I was at your age. Pursue God-honoring diligence daily and you will be extraordinary men worthy of leading our families, communities, and churches. Wrestle with this book. It is worth your careful thought and attention.
May your summer be a time of growth and renewal! Spend your time wisely. Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, and be strong. Let all the you do be done in love.
