College and School Counseling

Iron Academy has an extensive and growing counseling program for both middle and high school students. All students have access to school counseling for academic, personal/social, and college and career development. Middle school students in particular are helped to make the transition from elementary to middle school with higher academic and social expectations. Counseling topics for middle school include time management, peer relationships, and organizational skills for studying.

We are looking forward to having our first graduating class in May 2020 and know they will be well-prepared for college, career, and family. College prep starts in 9th grade with a “college intensive class” that helps our students identify their interests that would help them determine a major and career to pursue. Our college counselor helps them map out the types of courses they will take and our students take field trips to local colleges. Students stay in constant contact with our college counselor throughout their high school years. Freshmen meet with our counselor once per semester, sophomores meet once per quarter, and juniors and seniors meet 3 times per semester. At these meetings, freshmen and sophomores make sure they are on track with academics and upperclassmen discuss their college and career goals. Our students have accounts with to assist in their search for colleges that would be a good match.

Our college and school counseling program is overseen by Ms. Bethany Benson, who has a Master’s of Education in Counseling from Liberty University and is a National Board Certified Counselor.
