Gabe Preston

Gabe is a sixth grader at Iron Academy this year and is really enjoying the program! He transitioned to IA from a local school where he had been since kindergarten. His parents were tired of hearing he was bored in class and sought a new environment that Gabe would find engaging. He is no longer bored! He now delights in the hands-on approach he receives at IA and particularly favors his science class and enjoys the dialogue he has with all his new teachers.

Gabe is the youngest of five children. He lives at home with his 15-year-old sister Sophie, his parents, and his grandmother. He also lives with his cat, Lucky, and his dog and best pal, Jax. When his parents and older siblings don’t think he’s listening, they are always amazed how much he pays attention! He definitely has an engineering brain and puts it to good use solving many problems at home. He is constantly thinking of how something can be solved or fixed. Gabe really enjoyed the problem-solving and team-work required at Crucible Camp with his new classmates during the first week of school in the mountains. This year’s IA highlight thus far was learning survival skills from a Navy SEAL!

Gabe’s favorite pastimes include baseball, camping, boating with his family, playing card and board games, video gaming with his brother and friends, and flying his drone. He also loves spending time with his dog Jax. He shares a passion for science fiction with his father and they enjoy taking in Star Trek episodes on a regular basis.

Gabe has been challenged to be a better student by learning that biblical manhood is not an accident. He is working hard to live by the Honor Code at home where his parents have noticed his willingness to help out when asked without complaints and with a cheerful demeanor. They are delighted in hearing Gabe talk about school more than ever before and most importantly they are witnessing Gabe’s relationship with Christ grow on a daily basis.

God has matched him with Andy Duke, his youth pastor at Christ Baptist. Andy will be Gabe’s mentor throughout the year and hopefully for many years to come. Though they have known one another for only several months, they are looking forward to this iron sharpening iron experience. In his free time, Andy enjoys camping, fishing, biking and pretty much anything else outdoors. Andy and Gabe appear to be paired very well. May their friendship live long and prosper.
